GROUP ClassES Available
“Creative Aging uses the arts to improve the quality of life for older adults through creative expression and social engagement. It is rigorous, sequential learning for active engagement, taught by skilled, experienced teachers. Creative Aging classes result in a finished product in the art form of one’s choosing. It’s also confidence-building, joy-producing and community-building!”
We occassionally have group classes available for students age 50+ in various instruments. Join a waiting list for a class in the instrument of your choice. Once three students join the waiting list, we will contact you to schedule a lesson time.

Memories of the heart
Northeast Iowa School of Music (NISOM) is offering a series of Creative Aging classes, “Memories of the heART” which will explore the theme of memory in multiple arts disciplines. The classes are held five Thursdays in May, 1:00-3:00 PM, culminating with a free public presentation on Saturday, May 31. Open to participants ages 50 and older, all sessions will meet in the Theater Room of Sunset Park Place, 3730 Pennsylvania in Dubuque. No experience necessary! The cost for the 5-session class is $65. Advanced registration required; contact NISOM at 563-690-0151 by April 25.

Schedule
- May 1: Write Your Memories. Participants will translate a favorite memory into an engaging written story; taught by Jim Brimeyer, English teacher and author.
- May 8: Describe Your Memories. Learn storytelling techniques that bring your special memory to life; taught by Joe Klinebriel, actor and theater teacher.
- May 15: Sing Your Memories. Compose an original melody to turn your memory into a song; taught by Tracey Rush, composer and music teacher.
- May 22: Envision Your Memories. Transform personal photos and memorabilia into a meaningful work of collage art; taught by Margi Buhr, retired museum educator.
- May 29: Gather Your Memories. A supervised day for students to work on, revise, finish, and practice the projects from the previous weeks
- May 31: Share Your Memories. Invite family and friends to this public presentation of our memories.
