VOICE

If you like singing in a choir, performing solos at your church or school, participating in musicals, or singing karaoke, voice lessons are for you! You will learn the basics of breathing, producing healthy vocal sounds, and basic diction. Repertoire sung is personalized to each student.

EXPERIENCE

Melanie Beyerl graduated from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education.  She spent four years teaching K-8 general music and theatre production in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, freelancing and playing with the Minnesota Symphonic Winds.  Following this, she spent two years teaching K-8 music in St. Charles, Illinois while managing a private piano and voice studio and performing in the Northshore Concert Band in Evanston, Illinois.  She is currently teaching K-5 Music and 5th Grade Band for Western Dubuque Schools at Peosta Elementary School.

 

 
 

Jill Heitzman

EXPERIENCE

Jill Heitzman is an assistant professor of music at Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa. She has a master’s degree in vocal music performance from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.

Ms. Heitzman has had many leading roles in musicals at the Grand Opera House and directs plays and musicals with Fly-by-Night Productions, both theatre companies are based in Dubuque. Ms. Heitzman is a soprano in the Dubuque Chorale and has taught lessons for many years.

EXPERIENCE

Rebecca has been a proud voice teacher for over 10 years and her students have achieved awards at the NATS Student Council Auditions, Access Broadway competitions, and admission into the audition-only New Orleans Center for Creative Arts as well as several leading roles in local productions. An avid performer of opera, concert music, musical theatre and jazz music, some of Rebecca’s favorite operatic roles performed include the title role in The Merry Widow, Despina and Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte), Micaëla (La tragédie de Carmen), Pamina (The Magic Flute), and Yum Yum in The Mikado. Musical Theatre roles include Eponine in Les Miserables and Nelly Forbush in South Pacific.

 

As a professional soloist, Rebecca has appeared as the soprano soloist for several Masterworks throughout the Midwest and Gulf Coast. Rebecca currently performs locally with the jazz group JazzQ as the lead vocalist.

With a background in early education, Rebecca loves to bring song, dance, and silliness to the families of Dubuque through her Mini Musicians classes. Kid-tested by her own 3 young children, Rebecca holds classes at the Northeast Iowa School of Music, Early Childhood Centers and performs Children’s Concerts locally.

EXPERIENCE

Teresa Slade was a national quarter finalist in the 2015 Grammy Teacher Music Education Award program, a finalist in Dubuque Community Schools 2013 Teacher of the Year, and earned the Diane Elgin DeMaio Award for excellence in teacher mentorship in 2014. She has coached 52 Iowa All-State chorus singers, 7 Iowa All-State Jazz singers, 45 Iowa Opus Honor Choir singers, 9 Best of Center performances, 8 national finalists in the Great American Songbook Competition, 3 Glenn Miller Scholarship and Catfish Jazz Society Scholarship winners, 5 American High School Honor Choir finalists, and many College and University honor choir finalists and scholarship recipients. Teresa served on the executive board of the Iowa Choral Directors Association for four years as Northeast Iowa District Chair. Slade has served as music director for more than 20 musicals at Hempstead High School, Bell Tower Theatre, Rising Star Theatre, University of Dubuque, and Beckman Catholic High School.  Ms. Slade has performed lead theatrical roles professionally and was a frequent soloist with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and Grand Pops Orchestra. She is also a composer who has released two albums and has had her original works performed by the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and the choir, orchestra, and brass quartet at the Dubuque Archdiocesan Jubilee celebration at the UNIdome.   Teresa currently directs Heartland Harmony, serves as music director for Rising Star Theatre summer music camp, and mentors new vocal music teacher

Experience

Mr. Tebbe has been teaching music for 17 years. Currently, he teaches band at Mazzuchelli Cathoic Middle School and Holy Family 5th Grace band. He plays multiple instruments including saxophone, guitar, and drums. He is also classically trained in voice by John Lease.

In his spare time, he enjoys performing in local community theater. Some of his favorite roles have been Shrek in Shrek the Musical, Beast in Beauty and the Beast, and Father Grundy in Fish on Friday. Recently, he has begun playing saxophone in the band The Struggle.

EXPERIENCE

Cameron Toups teaches music for the Dubuque Community School District.  She holds an MM in vocal performance from North Park University, Chicago, IL and a BA in music and French from Simpson College, Indianola, IA. As a performer, she has sung with the Des Moines Metro Opera and Madison Opera choruses, produced a full recital of art songs and arias, soloed with the Heritage Chorale and Grand Pops Orchestra, and performed supporting and ensemble roles with the Grand Opera House. Equally at home with elementary to collegiate-aged students, Ms. Toups combines her knowledge and experience with developmentally appropriate instruction. She is accepting a limited number of students.
