It is rigorous, sequential learning for active engagement, taught by skilled, experienced teachers. Creative Aging classes result in a finished product in the art form of one’s choosing. It’s also confidence-building, joy-producing and community-building!”

Memories of the heart

Northeast Iowa School of Music (NISOM) is offering a series of Creative Aging classes, “Memories of the heART” which will explore the theme of memory in multiple arts disciplines. The classes are held four Fridays, October 3-24, 1:00-3:00 PM. Open to participants ages 50 and older, all sessions will meet in the Theater Room of Sunset Park Place, 3730 Pennsylvania Avenue in Dubuque. No experience necessary! Printmaking: Explore, Experiment, and Create!

The November visual art offering will be “Printmaking: Explore, Experiment, and Create!” taught by artist Andonia Giannakouros. This 3-week class involves the fascinating process of cyanotype (painting and emulsion of cloth or paper), one color monotype (oil paint or printmaking ink on plexiglass plate which is printed on cotton paper), and making your own set of cards. “The skills are more related to color choice and creativity – one really can’t go wrong with this one,” says Andonia. “They will look cool no matter what.”

We occasionally have group classes available for students age 50+ in various instruments. Join a waiting list for a class in the instrument of your choice. Once three students join the waiting list, we will contact you to schedule a lesson time.
